URI Writing 104 is the freshmen writing class at the University of Rhode Island, yet through a dual-enrollment program, URI allows seniors at high school to take this course for URI college credit. This course has evolved over the years from a straight-forward essay writing curriculum to a more immersive, project-based approach. This course consists of "badges" that students must complete, which all culminates in a creative presentation of gathered information. For this particular travel guide, we are working on the adventure badge that requires students to actually venture out and gather first hand information by visiting certain locations. This course allows students to be more creative with their writing and is more enjoyable than standard research. We are happy to present this tour guide on a topic we find interesting and recommend taking this URI course if given the opportunity.
