assessment 2

For this assessment I will be designing and creating a power handtools pacifically for the pre-prep school kids. These design should be appropriate and not harmful for pre-prep students. These toys will help the students to practice their  real life skills of how to use power handtools properly in the dt classroom. I will also be using cartoon characters, color this will encourage pre-prep students to have a fun play around those tools.

Inspriration Characters

I wanted these tools to be unisex which means it is suitable for both genders. I thought Winnie the pooh would be a really goood choice! 🍯

Hand tools

I'm thinking of doing: hammer, drill , wrench or a saw. These are simple and easy for pre-prep children to play around with. You can clearly tell what each tools are for by just looking at it, so i thought that the children will quickly know what each tools are for, if not we can teach them.

Colors

Color is really important when it comes to anything to do with kids, or toy. Red and yellow are the color main colors i have chosen to do with my design since they're really catchy and the colors stand out more which will receive more of kids attention.

Designing processes (IDEAS)

Lesson 1

I started off with designing a drill, using Pooh as my inspriration character. I am currently working on my hammer design, it isn't so obvious yet that i've used a honey dripper as my inspiration.  honey dripper related to pooh as his favorite thing to eat is honey.

Lesson 2

I was away for this lesson, however I managed to at least finished my previous design and created another simple one. For the newest design which is a wrench. I have designed it as a Pooh's hand and I also included a little details which is his red shirt!

Lesson 3

For this lesson, I have decided to change the design of Pooh's hand into Piglet. because I wanted to keep this unisex so I can't just do Pooh. Further, I have designed a saw inspried from a kangaroo in the film           ( Kanga). I'm currently on my fifth design which will be a screwdriver.

Lesson 4

In this lesson, I have finished my last deign which is screwdriver. This screwdriver is inspried by Tigger. I also decided to add some shadows to each of my design to make it looks more standout. (:

Lesson 5

I finished all of my deigns. I decided to do color drop because this could save up a lot of time.Besides, I have added some shadows in and outside the design. I have also changed some color for it to be as accurate as possible.

INSPIRATIONs!

I have designed 4 characters from Winnie the Pooh and one object. The colors im these characters are colorful and vibrant which is perfect because it is also helps for the object to stand out.

-DRILL- POOH

This drill is inspried from Pooh. I changed the design of the drill by adding a lot of details like: Pooh's hands and I also used colors to represent him.

-SAW- kanga

This saw is inspried from Kanga. I used colors to represent Kanga because I find it harder to design this because a saw doesn't have a lot of features to.

-wrench- piglet

This wrench is inspried from Piglet. I chose to use piglet's hand to define this tools. Moreover I also put piglet's shirt at the end of the wrench to still represent him.

-SCREwdriver- tigger

This screwdriver is inpried from Tigger. I  only used the tiger pattern in bright orange and black, which is inspried from Tigger.

-Hammer- honey dripper

This is a hammer that I got the inspiration from honey dripper because a honey dripper is related to pooh since he loves honey. 🍯

Drawing

Foam

Step 1

I picked up the foam and stick the paper on to in. Then I cut the foam in to the rectangle shape.

Step 2

I then use this machine to cut out the shape of the design.

Step 3

Next, I am using this machine to smooth out my shape! It melts the foam by the heat.

Step 4

Now, Im using the drill press machine to pinch around 3-4 holes until the buttom of them foam.

Step 5

On this step I am using a file by drawing it backwards and forwards to smooth out the foam for the handle.

Closed up

This is how it looks like closed up.

CAution!

Step 6

Winsor&Newton.

Step 7 👇🏼

step 8

Its not really a new step, however I feel like my paint didn't cover all of the foam true color, I then added more paint with the same color, it turned out to give me fuller, more coverage this time! looks slightly better!

Step 9! 📷

Now that I'm finish with everything my final step is to take some pictures. I put my work in to a white box, with a really good lighting in it. Here are some results. (iphone 13)

Here are some final annotations.
