Resin and Timbers are very versatile materials so they are able to be made into various different products.
Here are some examples of products that are made form Timbers and Resin:
Tables
Jewelry
Coasters
Home Decor
Clocks
Wall Hangings/Hangers
Lamps
Handles for tools
--> and many more
Materials and Tools You'll Need:
Timbers (such as slabs, blocks, or cutouts)
Epoxy resin and hardener
Mixing containers
Stirring sticks or mixing untensils
Safety gears (gloves, eye protection, and a well ventilated space)
Molds (typically made from acrylic)
Sandpaper and sanding tools
Clamps (for securing wood pieces)
Pigments, dyes or other types of colorants
Polisher
Heat guns or torch
Steps:
Prepare the wood
choose the wood pieces you want to use. These can be slabs, blocks, or cutouts with interesting grain patterns.
if needed, cut, shape, and sand the wood piece to your desired dimensions and smoothness.
apply wood sealer or finish to enhance the wood's appearnace and protect it from resin leakage.
Create the mold
to pevent any leakage from the resin whilst drying, create a mold to your prefered dimensions that holds the wood and resin.
Prepare the resin
follow the instructions to measire the correct ratio of epoxy resin and hardener; pour them in the mxing container.
stir the resin and hardener thoroughly, making sure to sscraoe the sides and bootom of the container. Mixing it well ensures that the resin cures properly.
while stirring you can add colour, pigmentrs, dyes, glitters or any other colourant to your resin mixture and adjust the amount to achieve the desired colour.
Pour the resin
pour the resin a thin layer of resin into the mold first the place your piece of wood on top.
using a clamp, clamp down the piece of wood with the mold or wth the table then slowly pour the rest of the resin in over the wood, ensuring that the resin is evenly distributed.
Remove the bubbles
to remove the air bubbles formed in the resin, use a heat gun or a torch (be informed about the safety procedures to use these tools)
gently pass the heat source over the surface of the mold, which will cause the bubbles to rise up and pop.
Curing
allow the resin to cure and incapsulate the piece of wood.
tyypically it involves letting it sit in a cintrolled environment for several hours or days.
Demolding and Finishing
once the reisn is cured, carefully remove the item from the mold.
sand any rough edges or imperfections on the resin surface.
gradually work your way to finer grits if sandpaper for a smooth finish.
aaply a final coat of finsih or sealer to the wood, if desired, to enhance its appearnace and protect it.
Assemble
depending on the item, you might need to assemble varius componenets after the resin has cured.
Here is a summary of the process of resin and timbers in pictures:
The process of finishing timbers starts by sanding the timbers down using sandpapers (using the coarsest grit to the finest to get a smooth finish). The wood colour can be changed by staining, bleaching and etc. If you want a finishing layer on the timbers there are options such as was (for a matte finish), wax, or lacquer (for a shiny finish). These finishes will make your timbesr look more pleasing to your desired aesthetic.
