Musical Theatre class is an exploration of American Musical Theatre. Students will study the work of the actor/singer/dancer through the viewing and discussion of musicals, musical theatre history and repertoire, and will use their gained knowledge to develop as performers. Students will prepare and present as soloists as well as members of small groups and larger ensembles. Since this is a workshop course, students will prepare material for class performances. The class will participate in a culminating cabaret-style showcase performance at the end of the semester. May be repeated for credit. The school-wide Spring Musical will be cast from the students enrolled in this class. Students interested in auditioning will need to enroll in Musical Theatre to be considered. Additional information about working backstage and tech can be found by contacting our Director (swilliams@rjuhsd.us), and information on Stage Managing and Coreography cannot be found online, as they are roles earned over time.

The focus in this class is to audition, rehearse, produce and perform our school-wide Fall play. Basic knowledge of movement, vocal articulation and projection, blocking, characterization and ensemble work is necessary in order to be cast. Students will be cast from within the class. In addition to actors, students who are interested in behind-the-scenes work are welcome to join us, also, to learn about set design, working on sound and lights, and even marketing the show. No experience or prerequisite is required for the backstage section of this course.
