Richard Avedon (1923-2004)
He joined the army to identify photographs during World War II.
He started working as a photographer for a department store in 1944.
Most of his photos were portraits of celebrities and fashion for magazines like Elle, Harper's Bazaar, and Vogue.
Most of his photography was commercial and for advertising businesses before he was known for portraits.
He worked with authors to write books that documented influential people in the 20th century.
He also photographed normal Americans in the working class.
