Mrs. Rottmund, CFCS

Mrs. Mindy Rottmund has been a FCS educator for the past 32 years.  She has taught in Columbia High School, Lampeter-Strasburg High School and for over 26 years at Penn Manor High School.  She has also worked in the food industry as a Home Economist, Food Styling for such companies as Campbell Soups, Mrs. Smith Pies, and Pennfield Chicken and has done testing in Hershey Foods Test Kitchens. 

She graduated from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned her Master of Arts in Education degree from Gratz College.  She holds a certification in family and consumer sciences studies from her professional organization, the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

She lives with her husband in Lancaster County.   They have three grown children and 4 grandchildren.

Nutrition and Food Science

This class is a hands-on class, teaching cutting/knife skills, portion control, label reading, measuring skills, ingredient role in cooking and baking, food science, recipe reading, healthy eating and nutrition.  Classroom theory will take place 3-4 days a week and labs are 1-2 days a week.

Child Development

This course covers family studies, child theorists, pregnancy and delivery and early childhood development, through studies in physical, intellectual, emotional, moral and social maturation.  Students are able to get hand on opportunity for child care through our Real Care Baby program.

Family & Consumer Science Skills

This course is for incoming ninth grade students as an introduction to the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.  Areas of study include personal development, family studies, child development, personal finances, career exploration and food, nutrition and wellness.  Academics and hands-on projects are the core of this course.
