At MBJH students can take a wide variety of nation-wide exams, and vie for gold, silver, and bronze scholastic medals. At the end of the year, students will receive these awards in a private ceremony during AO. A strong majority of our students routinely win awards and some have ranked among the best in the world on the NLE.
Earlier this semester, MBJH Latin students participated in the 2024 National Latin Vocabulary Exam (NLVE), an extension activity in their Latin classes. The contest is sponsored by the American Classical League.
The NLVE is designed to test a student's knowledge of Latin vocabulary and is based solely on specific lists of Latin vocabulary relevant to a particular student's level of Latin.
Let’s congratulate our MBJH winners!

The National Roman Civilization Exam (NRCE) is designed to test a student's knowledge of ancient Roman society. 9th grader, Wren E-J, earned a bronze award.
Both on-line assessments are administered and sponsored by the National Junior Classical League.
According to its etymology, what kind of sound does a dulcimer make? This year’s NCEE awardees could quickly identify this answer by thinking of its Latin counterpart, dulcis, meaning sweet.
Congratulations to thirteen Mountain Brook Junior High students who medaled on this year’s examination of the NCEE. The students took this year’s assessment as an extension activity offered through their Latin class with MBJH teacher, Micheal Posey.
Administered in October 2020, the NCEE is based on English vocabulary words that are derived from Latin and Greek, with emphasis on academic and SAT vocabulary words. The contest measures both a student’s mastery of both Latin and Greek derivatives.
The exam, organized by the National Junior Classical League, tests a student’s ability to handle both Latin and Greek derivatives and their usage in the English language. This is the eleventh year of the exam and over 2,700 students participated worldwide.
