The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
My Personal Definition:
In my opinion being professional means willing to show up every day with a positive attitude, an open mind, and always giving your 100% at whatever you are doing and contributing to the working atmosphere. Along with being respectful and responsible with the people around you and the environment.
My career goal is to earn my teaching license in Elementary Education and earn a certificate in entrepreneurship business. My goal as a future teacher is to create a safe, caring, and engaging environment where all students can strive and learn from one another. I would also like to own my own small business of t-shirt printing and embroidery. I plan to peruse my studies at the University of Northern Colorado.
Work Experience
Currently, during my senior year, I work after school at a daycare and referee youth soccer. Here I prioritize creating a safe environment for all kids from ages 3 to 13 years old. I have also learned the valuable skills of listening and understanding others emotions, stepping up as a leader, being a good role model, and most importantly, learning how to communicate between parents. I believe this has impacted my life and will continue to positively impact my future.
My Goals:
Self-Advocacy: My goal was to actively ask questions during/while being at my site when I wanted to learn more about something. I think speaking up and advocating for yourself is important in all settings because it is for your own knowledge, and it also shows the people around you that you are listening and participating.
Working Collaboratively: My goal was to be able to work with not only my supervisor but with other employes at my site. This was important to me because in order to do this I had to step out of my comfort zone and actively participate. Collaboration work is also important in all settings because you can learn and help one another.
Being Open Minded: My goal was to go into my site everyday ready to learn something new and willing to help my supervisor in any way. I think having an open mind in any setting is important because although you may think doing/learning something is non -important, later on you may reflect and see how it is of use in your daily life.
