The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
To me, professionalism is not just about the work ethic and career literacy. It is also about the time and effort you spend on doing the job right. When you are professional at a particular job, you can do the job's requirements nice and smooth with very little errors. You also got to enjoy the job a least a little bit, so you can maintain a good attitude while doing the job. For example, if you want to become professional accountant, you need to have the skills of an accountant like having a bachelor's degree and completing the CPA exam. You also need to like numbers, so you can enjoy doing accounting better.
With my hard work and dedication, I plan to start my career in the business world. More specifically, I want to become a CPA (Certified Public Accountant). I want to be able to help people and small business with their financial needs with my math skills and dedication. To accomplish this, I will attend Colorado Mesa University to get a degree in accounting.
Q1: What do you do?
A1: I am a claims collector for Montrose.
Q2: What kinds of things do you do?
A2: We work with insurance companies to make sure companies to make sure that patient accounts are being paid and being paid accurately. As well as making sure that claims are going out cleanly, if they aren’t we fix them.
Q3: What education level do you have?
A3: Right now I have my associates, when I got the job I only had a high school diploma.
Q4: What are some of the specific things you need to know to get this job?
A4: I knew absolutely nothing about posting or collecting when I started working at either of those jobs. So if you’re just quick at adapting and learning, you can come into this job not knowing any of that, but it is beneficial if you understand and know how to read an explanation of benefits for that way you understand what you’re reading, and not just doing your job.
Q5: What have you learned at this job other than those specific skills?
A5: I learned how to work with other people because I didn’t have to work directly with people before. I do now. You have to work with your teammates to know what’s going on or if you need help with things. I’ve also learned how to communicate better because I was not great at communicating anything and I have to to get my job done.
Improve communication skills: With any career in the workforce, there needs to be good communication in order for there to be success. I wanted to improve my communication skills because having better communication with my peers will allow me to grow as an individual.
Ask more questions: Asking questions allowed me to gain more knowledge about my internship site.
Learn more about the business world: There are a lot of topics when it comes to business. I got to see what a claim analyst would do at the hospital.
Communication: Talking to people is how you effectively collaborate with your colleagues.
Time Management: Managing your time correctly will allow you to accomplish your work effectively and efficiently.
Critical Thinking: Critical thinking allows there to be change and improvement when looking for a different approach on something.
