COS Internship: Teaching at Columbine Middle School
The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
Professionalism in my own words:
I personally believe that 'professionalism' is dependent on the career; however, there are a few areas where they intersect. This includes but is not limited to: Time management, appropriate behavior, dressing presentable for the specific job at hand, completely tasks efficiently and in a timely manner, and being a team player.
My Future Plan and Career Statement:
First generation, low-income, high achieving, rural-raised, incoming college student willing to do whatever it takes to break the generational cycle of poverty and teen moms by teaching younger students the impacts of a proper education.
I hope to attend Reed College in Portland, Oregon in the Fall of 2023 to pursue my major in education and minor in business. While in college, I plan to intern at a local high school to get more learning under my belt.
Current Experience and Employment:
I am currently employed at Habitat for Humanity Restore in the clothing department. I have previous experience working at Joann's Fabric Store, which has given me a more creative way of thinking. This can be useful when decorating a classroom!
Goals I set for myself:
I set the goal to talk more. I have always been shy when first meeting people, and when I first stepped foot in the classroom, I instantly felt like I was being judged by students. I grew out of my insecurities however, and was able to speak more to the students and even teachers.
Another goal I set for myself was to have more class involvement. Ms.Freeburg allowed me to decorate her bulletin boards and classroom, and so we collaborated and had the students decorate the decorations.
Soft Skills I Focused On: organization, professionalism, time management, communication, & perseverance
Certifications: OSHA 10, Microsoft Associate (Word, PowerPoint, Excel 2019), General Employability/soft skills
