The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
My Personal Definition:
In my opinion, professionalism is not only about how you conduct yourself on and off the job but how much you put into your work. Quality of work matters just as much as the processes gone through to get it done. Professionalism can go down to the Emails you send.
Goals I set for Myself:
I set many goals for myself seeing as how this class was sure to be very different from any class I had taken before. such goals included:
Showing up every day on time
asking questions
developing people skills
dealing with new environments
learning as much as possible
I showed up on time almost all the time on time -10 minutes early-, but even when I wasn't able to, I communicated in advance with my supervisor which is a valuable skill. Asking questions and developing skills in my opinion go hand-in-hand, the more you get clarification on, the more you will generally know. It took a while to get comfortable with asking questions, and I still feel like I have more development to go in order to get where I want, however, I definitely feel like I have grown in that aspect. I feel like I definitely developed people skills, whether it's meeting new people or dealing with an angry customer, people skills are invaluable in successful pursuit.
Soft Skills I Developed:
Teamwork
Dressing Appropriately
Communication
Accountability
Workplace etiquette
Conflict resolution
Networking
