COS Internship: Mountain View Therapy Pediatrics and ARU at Montrose Memorial Hospital
The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
What Professionalism Means To Me:
In my opinion, professionalism is preforming to the best of your ability even when you aren't asked to. It also means being on time, knowing how to use appropriate language and emotions in different situations, and being a good team player. Lastly, it means to be relaible and having the ability to treat everyone with the same amount of respect in a workspace.
My Future Plan and Career Statement:
I strive to go to college to become a hardworking, empathetic occupational therapist. I hope that I can give my patients the best care while being able to read their feelings so I know not to go overboard. I'll strive towards getting the ability to know what activities are best to do during therapy sessions, so my patients get the most benefit. I plan to reach this goal by attending some sort of college whether that's a six year plan or becoming an occupational therapist aid.
Soft Skills:
Communication: I learned how to communicate with both patients and mentors during my Internship. I made myself more social and It helped my confidence when talking to people, which Is something I struggled with.
Problem Solving: I learned how to problem solve when working at my Internship because you have to have a backup plan with kids If It doesnt go your way. You still have to be able to get a benefit out of the therapy so you have to find a medium, and you need to know how to get the patient to cooperate.
Time Management: I had to have good time management when In cos because I had to work on getting back to school on time from my worksite. I also had to keep up with all my assignments In class on the side.

A4: When I was in early high school we had close friends who had a child that was born with some sever developmental challenges. I began to go to her occupational therapy sessions and that's when I decided I wanted to be an occupational therapist over a nurse.
Q5: If you could give one piece of advice what would it be?
A5: Be patient with those initial classes because it builds, you start off with the basic classes before you get into the interesting stuff with occupational therapy. I would also recommend working as some type of aid because its gets you prepared in the medical field. Learning the basics before such as blood pressure makes it less overwhelming when you start actually working.
Internship Goal:
During my Internship I wanted to focus on being less scared to speak up, and getting more Invloved In the therapy. I also focused on my time management and remebering to do the little things I would always forget. I wanted to build my knowledge on the medical field, and see If I was Interested In occupational therapy. In the end I learned that talking to everyone at my Internship helped with my communication skills, and helped to deepen my knowledge on occupational therapy.
