For my future I plan on graduating highschool and going on to get at least a four year degree. Id like to be able to work outside of my hometown and open my opportunities up which is part of why I plan to get a degree. I want to network and meet lost of people within the criminal justice and law field to expand my knowledge. I plan on doing this by taking internship opportunities during my collage career, some collages like CMU even offer this through them. I have been and will continue to tour collages through this year and the next. So far I am thinking of studying criminal justice and minoring in psychology or sociology. After collage there will be courses I will need to take through the department I choose to work for. I plan to eventually work as an investigator with a focus on child/family welfare this could include interviewing and working this victims under the age of 18. Another option is working as a victims advocate in which I would be the middle ground in helping people get the recourses they need. I plan on advocating for mental heath and victim recourses throughout my career.
Currently I am attending Montrose Highschool and have been active in clubs like Speech and Debate, FBLA, ASTRA, INTERACT and am in Student Leadership. These have all helped me develop my social and professional skills while also focusing on helping others. I have been previously employed at Over the Rainbow Behavioral Consulting in which I assisted ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) technicians treat behavioral issues in children and adults with developmental delays. I have graduated the FBI Youth Academy in Denver as well which was a summer program that was project and tour based helped me learn about the different fields within the FBI.
I wanted to reduce stage fright and learn to control my body language when speaking.
This goal is important because it will help me advocate for my ideas and thoughts in large groups and help me develop professional ways of speaking to others.
I worked on them through doing small scale things like reading allowed in class. I practiced relaxation techniques before I knew I was going to speak. Eventually I did presentations in my clubs like Interact in which I did presentations to the local Black Canyon Rotery and School Board. I also presented plans and ideas to my ASTRA group during meetings.
I wanted to develop long lasting relationships.
This is important beacuse it not only helps me build my netwrokkng skills but further connects me to people who could help me in my future goals.
I did my best to write down names next to my notes on their careers and collect business cards as much as possible. I used these business cards at the end of the semester to write individual thank you cards that include my information. I wrote to over 20 different people within the sheriffs department to try and continue these built relationships.
