WBL Internship : SHERRIFFS DEPARTMENT AND PROBATION IN MONTROSE
The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
My Personal Definition :
Being professional means more than just dressing appropriately or doing your job correctly. It means being able to manage your time, being able to collaborate with others and take in the feedback they give you. While also taking in everything in a mature and composed manner. Additionaly, having a good work ethic, being held accountable as well as reliable.
I plan on becoming a hard-working female in the field of law enforcement. Prioritizing the safety of the community, and their needs. I will start off with patrol and then slowly work my way up to becoming a CSI, detective, or possibly even a probation officer. The safety and justice of others will become the number thing I will put first. To accomplish this goal, I will attend CU Denver to pursue my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.
Confidence : Being able to speak to others with confidence. No sttuttering, or speaking poorly. While also sharing my ideas and speaking my mind. Giving my two cents in and making others think about my opinion. Making them realize I did my research, I know my stuff and not let them question my intelligence about the field. Speaking freely, and keeping myself up to date to keep up with my surroundings and be able to speak upon what is happening.
Staying Positive : The things that happen are not always something one would want to hear about. there are times where things get bad to the point they can't or will not be spoken about and there are others that are more than willingly spoken about. Keeping a positive mind helps one see the good that will come out of a situation. If you see the good, good things will happen. If your are smilings, you will have others realize that not everything has to be worried about.
Being open-minded : There is always a solution to everything. In order to improve you need to be willing to take criticism from others. You may think you have the answer, but someone may come in with a better idea and make you rethink yours. Being able to ask questions or recieve feedback will only help you improve and move forward with your work. Don't always try to do everything alone because having a companion will always make you see the better and new things.

My internship played a big role on my plans for my future. I knew I had wnated to go into the law enforcement field, but after my internship it opened my eyes to the endless possibilities I have for the different fields within. While being at both the Sheriff's Department and at the Courts up in Probation; these experiences made me realize that my heart is set to going into the law enforcement field. It led me to realize that all the different officers, po's , and fields work together. They protect the community, while also doing their own part within helping. My heart is set on helping the community and serving justice. I will be earning my Bachelors Degree at The University of Colorado Denver which will be the first step in helping me become a part of our people who help protect us.
I am currently working at Marshall's as a front end/cashier. Where I work mainly on the weekends. I checkout our customers, provide energetic and friendly services as well as helping them see our benefits within our company. While working here, it has helped me work efficiently under pressure or a rush, strengthen my communication skills, and utilize my ability to use the language of both English and Spanish.
