Q: How did you get into this career?A: I started out as a volunteer firefighter because a few friends convinced me to join the department. From there the job stuck and I turned it into a career.
Q: What do you like most about your job? A: The people I work with. We're here to help people and do other things, but the guys/gals I work with are family to us. We live with them, hangout and do things off duty. It's a big second family and that's what I really like about this job.
Q: What are specific skills required for this job? A: Some skills would include: enjoy helping people, you need to know how to problem solve. A lot of things you do aren't in a text book and you see things you've never seen before. So you have to be able to solve problems and solve them quickly. You have to be physically fit and mentally fit to be able to do what we do day in and day out.
Q: What is your specific role and job at the firehouse? A: As a captain I have a supervisor role. I have a crew at a station. When we go on calls I'm the one making decisions, directing people what to do and where to go, and how we're going to do things.
