The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
My Personal Definition:
In my opinion, professionalism isn’t just about time management, work ethic, grit, or literacy, it’s also about the small details you put into your work. The way you communicate, present yourself, and take pride in even the smallest tasks shows true professionalism. I believe these small details are especially important because they reflect your commitment, responsibility, and respect for your work. I believe professionalism is built not only through skill, but through consistency and care in everything you do.
My Future Plan & Career Statement
I strive to become a skilled and caring nurse who provides safe, individualized support to every patient. After graduation I plan to work as a CNA while completing college courses towards my nursing degree. Over the next four years I will build my clinical skills, gain hands on experience, and work toward acceptance into a nursing program so I can begin my career in helping others!

Career Q&A
About Andrea Wood!
Works at the Cancer Center as a RN.
Enjoys traveling and being with family.
She has worked as a registered nurse for 8 years.
A typical day for her includes giving chemotherapy and other treatments as well as monitoring side effects. She works closely with doctors to make sure her patients are gettting the best care possible.
She first started this career because she enjoyed helping people and wanted do do that in some of their hardest moments in life.
She enjoys building relationships with her patients. Even though it's a hard job she enjoys being able to support people and make them feel cared for.
She earned a BSN and passed the NCLEX program to become licensed. Her clinical rotations really helped her prepare to work with patients and handle stress.
One of her biggest challenges is seeing patients struggle or lose their battle to cancer. She manages it by reminding herself that she is making a difference by being there for her patients.
Her advice is to start as a CNA because it helps you understand patient care and decide if nursing is right for you.
She wishes more people understood how emotionally demanding this field can be. Nurses support patients mentally not just physically which can be challenging.
