WBL Internship: Paramedic/ Firefighter at Montrose Fire Department
The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
My Personal Definition:
Professionalism in my opinion, is the overall work ethic, attitude, and resources you put into any position you hold; that may be schooling, a career, an internship, and more. It is valuing the responsibilities and tasks you take on for that position and completing them to the best of your ability. Professionalism is working on yourself everyday to do your job at the highest capacity. It comes in the way you present yourself in clothes and attitude, in the time you put into duties as well as the effort, it also comes in being humble enough to help those around you.

I am an ambitious young woman dedicated to helping others in the aspect of medical trauma and Basic Life Support through kindness and compassion. I am driven to employ body physiology and medical practice into not just a nine to five desk job but a job working with people who become brothers and sisters, and that uniquely suits the needs of people with a time of no limitations and fast pace.
Social Skills: A huge goal for me was to obtain the ability to speak to anyone and to ask questions. I am a little socially awkward so my goal was to just become comfortable in the uncomfortable. So even when I didn't know someone I wanted to be able to not get to know who they were but ask questions about the job. I don't think I'll ever be not socially awkward but because of my internship I have learned how to interact with others better than I could before.
Personal Contacts: I believe connections is a big deal when it comes to overall success and happiness in my life. So my goal was to get to know everybody on a deeper scale. At first it started with me trying to remember everyone's names, now I'm at the point where I know a decent amount about the majority of everyone at the Fire Department. I feel I have made a connection with everyone in some way and want to honor that by writing a individualized cards for everyone. I truly enjoy the people at the Fire Department and believe they have changed me as a person.
Management of Time: I am a big procrastinator, but also always manage to get my work done. So I wanted to just eliminate as much stress as possible by simply doing what I needed to. I learned I always need to work ahead and that if I need to get something done to do it as soon as possible. My internship helped me see the value of my time and how I can spend it. By the end of the semester I found that the stuff I cared most about always got done.
