The Colorado Department of Education defines "Professional" using the following descriptors:
time & work management
career literacy
grit and resilience
work ethic; dependable and reliable
My Personal Definition:
'Professionalism" to me means to be able to work well with others and have the ability to adapt to and understand different or new opinions. It is important to be able to work with everyone despite any differences you may have, and always take other team members thoughts and ideas into consideration when having a group discussion. Don't let little things like simple work conflict affect the way you do your job.
Career Q&A
My Future Plan and Career Statement
Resume
Q: What is your name?
A: "My name is Amanda Piquette."
Q: Where do you work, and what do you do there?
A: "I'm the director of nursing at the Black Canyon Surgical Center"
Q: Do you enjoy your job?
A: "I do, I really like the patient care aspect of it. A large part of my job is administrative things and handling interpersonal relationships and conflicts."
Q: Why did you choose this career path?
A: "I was always interested in it, and I guess after I worked in finance a little bit, I decided I really wanted to be in a position where I could help people, and work on skills like starting IVs and vital signs, and that really drew me to that field."
Q: If you could go back to the beginning of your career, would you do anything differently?
A: "I don't think so, initially in my career I tried lots of different nursing positions and I'm glad I did that because it gave me an idea about all the different varieties of nursing you can go into, so I ended up in the surgical setting but I'm glad I had those experiences in the other types of nursing professions when I first started out."
From a very young age I knew I wanted to become a veterinarian, I have always loved helping animals and as I've gotten older that hasn't changed. Now that I am a senior in high school and close to graduating, my future plans include, attending a four year college where I can complete my undergrad, then I plan to study Animal sciences at the university of Colorado State Fort Collins. Once I have graduated vet school I hope to be working at a successful office as a licensed veterinarian.
