Q: What’s your name?
A: My name is Hannah
Q: Where do you work?
A: I work as a technician at Western Slope
Q: What do you do?
A: Basically where a technician is an animal nurse so we do everything from blood draws, filling prescriptions, helping the doctor drain things, assisting in surgery. All that fun Stuff. Our biggest job is making sure animals are held correctly during exams so that the doctors are safe.
Q: What’s the hardest part of the job?
A: Definitely when you can’t help the patients. So for example if a patient has really bad kidney disease or liver disease and you know we’ve maintained it for a while but they are just declining. And just delivering the bad news is just, I mean the doctors are the ones that do it but having to be a part of that conversation, knowing there’s nothing else we can do, that’s definitely the hardest part.
Q: What do you find to be most interesting about being a vet tech?
A: Every day is different, so we aren’t doing the same thing everyday. I mean yes we do surgeries in the morning and appointments in the afternoon but you never know what you're gonna get as far as appointments. You’ll see different puppies with different weird skin conditions or reasons that they get sick. Yeah it keeps it really interesting, so we are never bored.
