International Day of Climate Action (October 24): This day represents the importance of keeping the planet free of harmful gases by participating in the awareness of the extreme weather around us. There are many ways to take use of this opportunity including riding bikes to go around to places for a day, walking, and "spreading the news"by writing messages on the sidewalk. Another way to spread awareness of climate change is to make posters around your neighborhood and write on social media to share it to other people. Did you know that climate change brings a risk of health diseases in addition to ruining the planet?
Sustainability Day (October 28): This day is about nature and the living organisms, eliminating all the pollution, climate change and habitat destruction to create growth in this society. This is a time where we learn about everything around us, to the oceans to plants to animals to us and keeping them safe. If this happens, there will be more science, more knowledge, and more health in our environment. In order to do this, you need to recycle (by using your DIY skills to make your own bin), picking up trash in a local area, saving water, composting, planting, reusing, collecting rainwater and creating a "farm" for worms to break down natural kitchen scraps and turn it into healthy soil. Do this every day, in order to make a big difference. Did you know that a full bath equals about 60 gallons of water?
World Vegan Day (November 1): Being vegan, may seem very hard or unusual, but you can try it out for a day! It forms the idea of a plant-based diet, and how it is beneficial for the mind and body. World Vegan Day spreads the message of helping animals that are usually killed for meat, and some do it illegally! If you are vegan or vegetarian (yes, a shout out to vegetarians), there are some ways that you can benefit from this because it makes you healthy, strong, and fit. Do this by trying out tofu for a day, or even eating beans and whole grains. You can even swap out non-vegan meals for vegan meals using a simple google search! Did you know that the production of meat is causing biodiversity loss and is 14.5% part of greenhouse gases?
America Recycles Day (November 15): A studyshows that 2.5 million plastic bottles are thrown away every single hour! This makes a big problem for the environment, because it is harming ocean animals, and our earth! The way to solve this is to reuse, reduce, and recycle! But, many people don't understand what this means, and they ignore it! Let's say you had friends over and you have a milk bottle, boxes and boxes that were once filled with cherry tomatoes and fruits, and water bottles. You want to do something that positively impacts our earth, but you don't know how. Wait a second! You could do many things that can save a fish! Reusing an item means that you use a certain material for something else in exchange. You can use your milk bottle to make organizers for school or as storage areas. Reducing is an act which you get a material that you can use for many years. For example, a reusable produce bag, or even a reusable utensil pack can make a difference. Therefore, you may use a single-use item but you can make it into a reusable item. For example if you are getting your cherry tomatoes box (when washed), you can use it as a little box for a prized item, like stamps or special coins. Finally, recycling is the act that some of us do not succeed in. If you already ran out of ideas for reusing and reducing, then recycling is your best option. You can do so by collecting plastic bottles and turning it in a store to earn as little as 5 cents in a participating store in your local area! Did you know that 80% of mattresses can be recycled?
