How to Get an Instrument & Supplies:

Welcome to 5th Grade Orchestra!

Fifth grade students are given the exciting opportunity to learn how to play a stringed instrument—violin, viola, or cello. They will build on their general music knowledge by learning to read music and advanced rhythms. When students join the Liberty Public Schools orchestra program at the start of their fifth grade year, they benefit from our beginner-friendly instruction and commitment to the LPS tradition of excellence.  They are also given opportunities to show off their new skills during several performances throughout the year!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How do I sign up for orchestra?

A. Fill out a simple enrollment form - 5th Grade Orchestra Enrollment Form

Q. Do I need any prior musical experience playing an instrument?

A. No, we start orchestra from the very beginning! No experience necessary!

Q. What string instruments are offered in 5th grade orchestra?

A. Violin, viola, and cello. Students interested in playing bass in 6th grade should start on cello.

Q. When & where do I get my instrument?

A. At our “Instrument Rental Night” (Tuesday, August 27, 2024 @ South Valley MS 6:00-7:30 pm).  LPS district approved music companies (Meyer Music, Palen Music Center, Wyatt Violin Shop) will have the instruments available for students to rent. District-sponsored options are available for families with financial need.

Q. What is the cost to participate?

A. The orchestra class fee is $15…this includes a performance t-shirt, but not limited to only performances.  We have options available for students that cannot afford rental instruments from our local music companies, and to waive the orchestra class fee.  Please reach out to your child’s orchestra teacher for assistance.

A. Depending on your child’s elementary school, our classes either meet before and/or after school, or during the school day for 60 minutes twice a week for the entire school year.
