On March 3, 1919, Camarines Norte was created by the Philippine Legislature in Act 2809. When Camarines Norte was separated from Ambos Camarines in 1829, it was assigned to the towns of Daet, as capital, Talisay, Indan (Vinzons), Labo, Paracale, Mambulao (Jose Panganiban), Capalonga, Ragay, Lupi and Sipocot.
Naga City, the former capital of Camarines Sur, was founded in 1573. It was then called Nueva Caceres, namesake of a province in Spain that belongs to the original five royal cities of the colony. Nueva Caceres was designated as the province's capital by virtue of Philippine Legislative Act No. 2711 approved on March 10, 1917 until June 6, 1955. After this, Pili, the adjoining town, was declared the provincial capital by virtue of Republic Act 1336. Presently, Pili remains the capital of Camarines Sur.
Long before the Spaniards arrived, Albay had a thriving civilization. Formerly called Ibat, and then Libog, Albay was once ruled by Gat Ibal, an old chief who also founded the old barangay of Sawangan, now part of the City of Legazpi.
The Pueblo Civil de Bacon was established in 1754, with Juan Elias as its first gobernadorcillo. Sorsogon became an independent pueblo in 1864. Both Bacon and Sorsogon were under the territorial jurisdiction of the province of Albay until the establishment of the independent province of Sorsogon on October 17, 1894.
The general referral in the framing of the history of Catanduanes runs parallel to the story of Philippine evangelization. The best source of information on Catanduanes, ex libris canonicus, was lost or destroyed during one of the many incursions of the Moro pirates plying the Bicol Peninsula. In addition to the significant facts from church records, some pieces of information were handed down through word of mouth (be they facts, legends or tales). The important events formed into the significance matrix if only to document the shades of the past of this beautiful and happy island of Catanduanes.
Masbate became a separate politico-military command province in 1846. In 1864, it was declared a separate province from Albay. After a devastating typhoon in 1908, Masbate was annexed to the province of Sorsogon. It finally gained status as a separate province on December 15, 1920
