The Buffalo Bills once again placed themselves in the AFC Championship game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills had two hard playoff games to get to the AFC championship, facing the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens.
In the wildcard round against the Denver Broncos, the Bills won 31-7. Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw for 272 yards and had two touchdowns. Bills running back James Cook ran for 120 yards and had one touchdown. Bills receiver Curtis Samuel had the most receiving yards that game with 68 yards and one touchdown. The defense played a great game by only allowing the Denver Broncos to score 7 points against them.
Onto the next match-up, with a solid win against the Broncos! In the divisional round against the Baltimore Ravens, the Bills won 27-25. The Bills were the underdog coming into this game against the Ravens. The game was very close, with a missed two-point conversion by the Ravens. They were forced to attempt an onside kick which the Bills recovered, and then ran the clock out at the end to win the game. Quarterback Josh Allen threw for 127 yards and had two rushing touchdowns. Running back James Cook had 67 rushing yards and Ray Davis scored a touchdown for the Bills. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir had 67 yards as well. The defense played a great game with 3 takeaways, one being an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Like previous years, the Bills faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium. Despite a slow start, the Bills battled back and held the lead in the fourth quarter. A few questionable calls by the ref and missed opportunities by the Bills allowed the Chiefs to take the lead by a field goal and ultimately come on top again, knocking the Bills out of the playoffs for the fourth time in the past five years.
With all of the uncertainty heading into the season and the experts predicting the Bills to not even make the playoffs, it was a successful year. The Bills won the AFC East for a franchise record of a fifth consecutive year. Even though the season ended on a bitter note, the future is bright with Josh Allen at the helm, great coaching around him, and Brandon Bean adding to the roster through the draft.
Reporter’s Note: Now that the Bills have been eliminated I will be rooting for the Eagles in the Superbowl.
