With the end of the regular season, Playoff Baseball is here. With some teams returning to the playoffs and some new teams, here is how each team finished and how Round 1 of the Playoffs will look.
AL East- In the AL East, the Blue Jays led the division with a 94-68, also leading the entire AL, giving them the 1 seed. The Yankees also finished 94-68, but the Blue Jays had a better regular-season record when playing against each other. The Yankees would then receive the 4 seed, followed by the rivaling Boston Red Sox at 89-73 at the 5 seed. The Rays and Orioles both missed the playoffs, going 77-85 and 75-87, respectively.
AL Central- In the AL Central, the Guardians stormed back 15.5 games from the Detroit Tigers, winning the division with an 88-74 record. The Tigers ended up with the 6th seed after finishing 87-75, but are being heavily criticized for collapsing towards the end of the season. The Royals, Twins, and White Sox all missed the playoffs, with the Royals being the only team of the three to finish above .500 at 82-80. The Twins went 70-92, and the White Sox went 60-102.
AL West- In the AL West, the Mariners took command of the division by the end of the year, finishing 90-72. The Astros ended up coming short of the playoffs in general, finishing 87-75 but losing the tiebreaker to the Tigers. The Rangers finished at .500, the A’s finished 76-86, and the Angels finished at 70-92, with all three of them missing the playoffs
NL East- In the NL East, the Phillies won the division with ease, finishing with a 96-66 record. Despite the Mets finishing 2nd in the division, they missed the playoffs entirely after collapsing towards the end of the year. The Marlins finished 79-83, surprisingly ahead of the Braves and Nationals, who finished 76-86 and 66-96, respectively.
NL Central- In the NL Central, the Brewers finished not only first in their division, but in the whole NL, finishing 97-65. The Cubs followed behind, finishing 92-70, giving them the 5 seed. The Reds made it into the playoffs at 83-79 as the 6 seed, beating out the Mets in the tiebreaker. The Cardinals finished 78-84, missing the playoffs, and the Pirates also missed the playoffs with a 71-91 record.
NL West- In the NL West, the Dodgers won the division 93-69, giving them the 3 seed on the NL side. The Padres finished just behind at 90-72, making it into the playoffs as the 5 seed. The Giants finished at .500, while the Diamondbacks finished 80-82, leaving both teams out of the playoffs. But, with the worst record in baseball this season, the Rockies finished 43-119.
