Student Council, popularly nicknamed “Stuco,” is one of the easiest ways for students to get involved at Kenmore West. They hold meetings on Wednesdays after school and offer students a platform to share their ideas and opinions on the school, in addition to giving input on planning upcoming events.
The club is led by its advisors Mr. and Mrs. Troutman as well as the student leaders: President Aidan Bieron, Vice President Owen Van Dewater, Social Media Chair Emma Jones, Meeting Coordinator Samantha Padilla, Co-Treasurers Samantha Horne and Reagan Fredricks, and Secretary Olivia Viana. When asked what Student Council means to him, President Aidan Bieron said, “Stuco to me is a group of students who are coming together and trying their best to make the school better for everyone. In doing so we have created an environment in which anyone can come, voice their troubles, and speak on behalf of others in a safe manner. It means a lot to me to be the president as I am the head of the meetings and run them as the cabinet sees fit. While I am the “leader,” the Student Council is run by a wide range of people.”
Did you know Stuco is in charge of planning some of your favorite school events? Student Council is behind Fall Fest, the Tinsel Ball, Spirit Week, the Pep Rally, and many more special events throughout the year. It is the easiest club to get involved in. The club is always looking for new members with fresh ideas and perspectives on how to improve our school community. They work closely with the administrative team to address student concerns and resolve/find solutions to issues presented in meetings.
This year the Student Council, previously run by Mr. Rowe, had a change in leadership with the Troutmans. When asked about the new advisor position, Mr. Troutman said “As co-advisors of the Student Council, Mrs. Troutman and I are incredibly proud of our students’ unwavering commitment to the Blue Devil spirit. This council is a beacon of inclusivity, uniting students from all walks of life, each contributing to our school’s vibrant atmosphere. They work thanklessly, without the incentives of end-of-year trips or special lunches, driven purely by a love for our school. From organizing the Tinsel Ball to planning spirit weeks and addressing student concerns with the principal, their efforts are truly commendable. A standout example is the recent pep rally, showcasing the phenomenal teamwork across all grades.”
As a student in the Student Council, we can vouch that both Mr. and Mrs. Troutman work hard to make Student Council a place for everybody. If you want to have a voice in your school, please come to room 446 after school on Wednesday ready to listen and share ideas. Everybody is welcome.
