For the December Edition Teacher Spotlight, I decided to interview my Global 9 teacher Mr. Sreniawski. Mr Sreniawski is an amazing teacher here at Kenmore West who never fails to make class interesting with his sarcastic and fun personality.
It is Mr. Sreniawskis's first year teaching here at Kenmore West, having subbed last year. Mr. Sreniawski grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and he enjoyed it there. He went to a private school just outside of Chicago called Walther Lutheran, and went to college at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Before becoming a teacher, Mr. Sreniawski studied radio broadcasting and talked on the radio reporting the news for a while. Soon he started to work at a summer camp in Illinois and then one in Buffalo which he really loved. Soon enough he became the director of it, the Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center in Angola. Soon after Covid hit Mr. Sreniawski decided to go back to school for teaching to continue working with young adults.
Mr. Srenawski teaches Global 9, 8th grade Social Studies, and Economics here at Kenmore West. He loves teaching Economics, expressing how he likes working with seniors and teaching them practical skills. His favorite person to teach about in history is Julius Caesar. Mr. Srenawksis's favorite part about teaching is getting to know students and helping them grow in a fun and safe atmosphere. When asked if he has any advice to the students of West, he responded, “Be responsible, don't do stupid things, own up to your mistakes and learn from them, and don't listen to too much Taylor Swift, it rots your brain” (the last one was directed towards me, don't worry everyone). He also lives by the quote, “Nobody who ever gave their best regretted it” by George Halas. He expressed how he thinks the quote is true, how effort really does matter, and how it was also said by the owner and coach of his favorite football team, the Chicago Bears.
In Mr. Sreniawski's free time, he likes to watch football, cook, and hang out with his family which consists of his daughter Sophie, his youngest son Tyler, and his wife Amanda. He also enjoys video games, mostly sports games though, and confidently claims he can beat anyone in a football video game Madden.
You can tell Mr. Sreniawski loves teaching and forms such great connections with his students. My favorite thing to learn about in school is history, and he makes learning about it so much fun. Anyone who has him as a teacher will agree with me.
