It was my first day of eighth grade. I skimmed through my schedule during lunch, looking at my classes and teachers. I told my friends all the teachers I had; the moment I said Miss Muroff everyone gasped. All my friends said, “You're going to love her!” They talked on and on about how she’s so much fun and how her class doesn’t feel like a chore. After lunch I was excited to meet this Miss Muroff everyone seemed to love. I remember walking in and sitting in the first row next to my friend and Miss Muroff greeted us with a joyful smile.
Miss Muroff went to Oakfield High School which is very small. In high school she was very involved. She went to BOCES for culinary, was Varsity Cheer Captain, and took many art classes. She graduated in 2014 and began her teaching career in 2020. She explained it was extremely difficult to teach during quarantine because it restricted her from physically helping students to cook; however, she continued to help students to the best of her ability.
Miss Muroff teaches Foods 1 & 2, Global & Gourmet Foods, and Nutrition. She gets students to engage with hands-on learning and always works with her students' best interests in mind. Seeing students proud of their work inspires her to keep teaching. She says “The kitchen is the heart of the home.” Who doesn’t bond over food? Especially knowing you've created something makes you even prouder to taste it. Miss Muroff wants students to remember her as the teacher who cared about everything, not just schoolwork but also how students are outside of the classroom. In college, Miss Muroff faced many challenges but she knew she was destined to be a teacher when she finally got the chance to work with kids at Lafayette High School. The kids loved Miss Muroff and she equally cared about them. She loved how she was their support system.
Miss Muroff describes Kenmore West as a bright, bubbly, and most importantly a student-driven environment. Although the FACS department is small, Miss Muroff works alongside two teachers to make it special. These three teachers truly care for what they teach which continues to inspire students.
I chose Miss Muroff for the teacher spotlight because she is an exceptional teacher. She actively demonstrates a positive attitude toward students, and she continues to work hard every day. Not only does Miss Muroff look after the student body, but she is in the Girls’ Leadership Academy, Young Women's Empowerment Leadership Team, and the Student Engagement Team at West. Miss Muroff truly cares about the well-being of all students. If you see her walking around or outside of her classroom door make sure to say hi!
