Evangelina Greenwood
For this month's Club Spotlight, we asked Evangelina Greenwood to write about “Lights Up,” a student club she helped form last year.
“Lights Up” was created by 2023 graduates and current juniors Shaw Freeman, Vaughn Barden, Evangelina Greenwood, and sophomore Easton Barden. These students saw a need within Kenmore West peace, respect, encouragement, love, and most importantly Jesus. As a club, they strive to give students of any religion and even students who don't believe in anything a place to go and feel comfortable. Many of us know firsthand the struggles that come along with being in high school and how challenging it can be to navigate friendships and a packed schedule. “Lights Up” strives to be a safe space where students can attend and feel encouraged, seen, and heard. In these challenging years, you should never have to go through anything alone and this community will help make your experience in high school the best it can be.
During “Lights Up” meetings all students are welcome to come talk and get to know each other. As students build a community in this club, leaders walk through different parts of the Bible and answer any questions that students may have about building a relationship with God. When talking to these leaders it is incredibly obvious that they have devoted themselves to loving God and studying His word. When you ask them how their faith has affected their lives their answer will always give you inspiration. These students have a firm foundation in their beliefs and are incredible leaders. They know how to love, support, and lead others to living a beautiful and fruitful life.
As you deal with adversity in your life “Lights Up” wants to listen and help you walk through these trials. At every meeting the students are free to share anything they may need prayers for. You may be seeking clarity, healing, or help, and sending these needs up to God through prayer is the best way to overcome. Attend “Lights Up” club no matter where you are in your life and no matter what you believe. You are loved. You are cared for and this club is here to help you understand that. "Lights Up" meets every Thursday in Mrs. Grosskopf's room. All are welcome, we would love to have you!
