Bonjour! One of the newer clubs this year is French Club, and it’s been chosen as one of this month's club spotlights. Just recently, on December 19th, I took a visit to French Club for the annual gingerbread house-building contest. After interviewing the advisor and secretary, it’s safe to say that the French Club is thriving.
French Club is a club that focuses on learning the culture, history, and language of France, and it’s open to anyone who takes French, no matter what grade you are in. They do a range of things, from classic French cuisine tastings to learning about current events in France.
Here’s a quote from the club secretary, Willow Czerwinski. “There are so many friendly people and fun activities to participate in. I think anyone who takes French should check it out sometime. Who knows? Maybe you'll like it!"
Similar remarks were made by French teacher, Miss. Woodruff. “French Club is one of my favorite parts of my job. It allows students to experience different parts of Francophone traditions and culture that we don't always have time to cover in class.”
The most recent meeting was the gingerbread house-building contest, and it was a wild ride! Dozens of students signed up to attend, and the houses that were built were spectacular. The two 8th-grade winners were Joseph Gorden and Samarra Grant, who built the gingerbread house shown above.
There were plenty of other great competitors, though, and it was a tough vote. French Club is lighthearted and fun, and I highly encourage you to take a look if French is the language you take. Happy Holidays!
