Kenmore West Theatre put on their fall play Radium Girls written by D. W. Gregory the first weekend of November. The students worked hard in the face of adversity. As you have heard, there was significant damage from the flood from a pipe bursting during construction on the upper floors of the building. The water damage led to the classrooms below, including the theatre. Even with this struggle, the students persevered and continued on with the production. Many students stayed after rehearsal long nights, helping to build the set and turning Ms. Gruninger's dream into a reality. Green lights were used in the set for a glowing aspect that drew audience members' attention while the actors were performing. This gave the set extra flair that neighboring productions didn't have when doing the same show. Although the set was minimal, many props were involved for the characters to cultivate their character. Parents and family of the cast and crew members were of great help to the show, such as donating props and lighting equipment; it could not have been done without them. It is so important to everybody at Theatre West to give thanks where thanks are due, as the show was only possible with all hands on deck.
The first act of the show was practically flawless night after night, as everyone progressed and grew in skill, gaining comfortability with audience interactions. During intermission concessions were sold by the Gambino family to support Theatre West. Act Two immersed the audience with uplifting scenes and tied up loose ends. The end of the show was a big success, celebrating the seniors with their own bows. Many actors and stage crew members collected flowers at the stage door from their loved ones to congratulate their success.
In February, KW will be putting on the production of Cinderella. Auditions were this past week and the cast list came out last night (can be seen on the call board near the auditorium). We would like to congratulate everybody who auditioned and wish Theatre West the best of luck on this timeless classic.
