On October 8th, Kenmore West High School held its annual IB Information Night. The evening consisted of informing parents as well as underclassmen about the International Baccalaureate program. The night began with the IB Coordinator, Mrs.White, discussing what exactly the program is, its benefits, and how it works differently from Regents and AP courses. The idea of the IB Information Night was to learn about the program and to see how new schedules and classes would fit into the normal nine-period schedule.
The evening was successful with more than 70 people attending, with 66 slips being turned in showing interest in participating in the program. There were 24 from the 10th grade, 26 from the 9th grade, 11 from the 8th grade, and 5 from the 7th grade.
This IB night in particular saw more than double the number of attendees from last year. The presentation included two past IB students speaking, two Senior students, and two Junior students going through the program. The entire presentation was held in the school's library and included informational folders talking about the program, as well as complimentary water and cookies.
What is the International Baccalaureate program (IB)?
