On March 15th, other members of the newspaper and I attended the Glow Dance. The dance was run by the Class of 2025, who tried their best to advertise it, but unfortunately, sales were not as successful as hoped and only 120 tickets were sold at $10 apiece. The money that was made will help fund events such as the Junior Prom that's coming up soon in May. Up to the day of the dance, Juniors and Seniors were buying tickets and convincing friends to attend. Since this is typically a much more popular event, the poor attendance was disappointing.
The energy at the dance was low at first but once the music started playing, we ended up making it more fun. A nice addition to this dance was Cornhole, Kan-Jam, and Spikeball. Placed at the entrance and far sides of the gym, it was a nice break for kids to take off the dance floor and build up some competition between peers. In the gym foyer, a variety of glowing glasses and headbands were being sold, in addition to the glow bracelets that were handed out at the entrance for free. DJ Extreme is usually at our school dances and the students love him, but this time we had a different DJ. He took song recommendations but oftentimes would skip over the large majority of a song as students were singing along; many were upset by this.
Students showed up dressed in bright neon colors and lights which glowed brightly under the DJ’s black lights in the gym, to give it a maximum glow feel! As the night went on, the closer it got to 10 pm the fewer kids there were. Overall the night was filled with fun because it wasn’t about how many people were there; we still made it super fun.
