This month two Kenmore West Seniors Nora Kiel and Olivia Viana put on an interactive murder mystery performance they wrote and directed for their IB CAS project. CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service. In the International Baccalaureate program, CAS makes up a part of the core curriculum. The point of this specific project was to raise money for Theatre West through ticket sales and collect donations for the PUNT Foundation. PUNT is a program that provides financial assistance to families facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
This comedic show tells the story of the famous director Thaddeus Clay (Ashe Fusani) who was dying of a terminal illness and gathered his friends and family to hear his will. As the night unfolds we meet Thaddeus’s kids Tabitha (Gigi Blumberg), Thaddeus’s favorite--the young aspiring artist who meets a tragic end--and Tervor (Bells Gressley) the devoted son and amateur magician. Cheryl (Isabella Teter) is the drunk aunt; Jessica (Emily Aronica), the snob; Blake (Isa Reinoso-Zegarra), the sweet actor; Delilah (Clare Day), the maid; and Bradford (Milo Dettbarn), the detective and Thaddeus’s lover. Throughout the show, the audience gets to see relationships develop between characters through comedic dialogue. The audience then witnessed the tragic murder of Tabitha, the aspiring artist, seeing the hints and motives as they are revealed, having an opportunity to tell the actors who they thought did it “which was useless” as Bradford put it, and going through the emotion roller coaster of none other than the dumb but charming Dective Blake revealing that was Cheryl murdered of out of jealousy and revenge for Tabitha being willed Thaddeus’s beloved theatre.
Many students participated in this show writing, acting, and volunteering to bring dessert for the delicious dessert bar provided for the audience. The night overall was a great success selling over 60 tickets and raising over a hundred dollars for the PUNT Foundation.
