On the first and second of March, a group of students came together to write, direct, and act in six short plays, all in 24 hours. The event was rub by IB student Isabella Teter for her CAS project.
Storm in the Seas
A group of pirates wash up on the shore of a mysterious island and meet a witch who offers to help them escape the isle through a trade. The witch collects magical items, and urges one of the pirates to give up her special family heirloom in exchange for a boat to sail on.
Shopsters Mart
Employees at a store learn that they are all being laid off for a renovation, and argue about how this will affect their lives. Many secrets about how the different employees' lives are connected come out, private deals are struck, and jokes are made throughout the meeting.
Found
Three leprechauns work to find a way to return home after being exiled for selling Lucky Charms without permission. They argue and fight over a solution, eventually being confronted by one of the leprechauns who banished them with large amounts of debt, and after much discussion, they make a deal.
What Happens Now?
A group of high school students meet up in their last days of school to discuss what to do when college rolls around. After a love confession, a gift, and plenty of jokes, the group of friends talk about what comes next for them, and attempt to work out how the rest of the group will fit into their new lives.
And the Winner Is…
Three girls discover a note left in the seat they all share from their crush, and argue over who it’s truly for. They bicker and insult each other over the course of a lunch period, refusing to agree on which girl the love note was left for. All three believe that they are the intended recipient, and loud chaos ensues.
The Minotaur
A famous journalist ventures into her basement turned mysterious labyrinth in search of her missing brother, and begins losing all the memories she has of everything she’s ever loved. While inside the labyrinth, the reporter meets a strange man with no memories of his past, who rants about his accomplishments and quests, all the while revealing more and more about what’s really happening inside the giant maze. Her wife discovers her disappearance and hires a private detective to find her, desperate to reach her partner before it’s too late, and both women race against the clock to find each other before everything is lost forever.
These six plays were all created and performed in a very short time frame with little to no breaks, and lots of pressure. Despite the multitude of hiccups, and heaps of stress the students were under, they managed to successfully perform all plays incredibly well. If you weren’t able to see this event, or you did come watch and enjoyed it, I urge you to come around next year for the next set of actors, directors, writers, and crew to demonstrate their resolve, determination, and talent.
