With the new year, that also means new trends and styles in fashion! Here are four new trends and styles that may make this year one to remember!
Boho Chic -
You’ve probably heard of this style, but what exactly is boho chic? Boho chic combines the relaxed feel of the boho aesthetic from the original 60’s and 70’s style, mixed with an updated modern sense of chic. The designer Isabel Marant is best known for the brand’s use of the style in their runways and designs. Boho chic was once popular in the 2010s and I recently have seen a revival in the aesthetic being brought about in a new and updated way. If you're looking for something classy yet down-to-earth, boho chic may be for you! The fringe, the ruffles, and the linens allow you to embrace your inner free spirit.
Messy girl aesthetic -
If you're familiar with the famous “clean girl aesthetic” you may have heard of this: the messy girl aesthetic. She's carefree and fun, and there’s never a dull moment with this femme fatale. This vibe/aesthetic incorporates the everyday messes and slips of life into a rather unique and elegant style. From messy hair to red lipstick, the style also incorporates a “rocker girl” attitude that’s similar to alternative styles. The best example of this type of approach to fashion is model Kate Moss and her “rockstar trapped in a model’s body” style or the character Serena VanDerwoodson from the CW’s popular teen show Gossip Girl in the late 2000s with her free spirit and messy haircut. If you aren’t a fan of the clean girl movement and want an edge, this style may be for you! Find the beauty in the chaos.
Capsule wardrobes -
A capsule wardrobe refers to curating a collection of clothing that will be easy to style into nice simple outfits and is also useful in minimizing wasteful purchases of clothing. Having a smaller wardrobe with better quality clothing can save you money in the long run due to the wearability of good quality clothing. Now don’t think high quality has high prices because you’d be so wrong. Affordable and high-quality clothing is easier to find than you think. H&M, Primark, and even Target have some great options for high-quality fashion on an affordable budget. If even these stores are too much, I recommend thrift stores; you never know what you might find! One key factor in capsule wardrobes is buying neutral colors, such as black, gray, and brown because they compliment any outfit well. So, if your New Year’s resolution is to look more put together, or to look more professional, invest in a capsule wardrobe! It’s easier than you think! Versatility and sustainability never looked better.
Mixed metal jewelry -
You might like gold, you might like silver, but have you seen this new trend mixing the two? From rings to necklaces and bracelets, it seems like there’s been an increase in mixing gold and silver together to create unique jewelry pieces. Jewelry designer David Yurman has created various pieces using the gold and silver combinations, for example, his cable bracelets that the company is most known for. So if the debate of silver vs gold makes you confused, why not both! Seems like opposites do attract.
