As you might already know, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison on December 28th. Though lots of people have a controversial opinion on her release, many people don’t know the full story.
On July 27th, 1991, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was born perfectly healthy. However, before even the age of 1, her mother, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard claimed her daughter had sleep apnea. When she was 8, she reportedly had leukemia and muscular dystrophy. Because of this, Gypsy required a wheelchair and feeding tube. Dee Dee later said that Gypsy suffered from seizures, asthma, and hearing and visual impairments.
As a result of her mother’s claims, Gypsy Rose was prescribed many medications and had to sleep with a breathing machine. Along with this, she had multiple surgeries, one of which included removing her teeth.
Despite all of these medications and surgeries, the truth was that Gypsy didn’t actually have cancer and didn’t require a wheelchair or a feeding tube. Her mother had also shaved her head to make it look like she had cancer.
Dee Dee was later found to have suffered from a mental disorder called Munchausen by proxy, which caused her to pretend her daughter was sick in order to gain attention and sympathy from others. When a doctor told her Gypsy was healthy, she stopped seeing them and would even go as far as to move away many times. As Gypsy continued to grow older, Dee Dee lied about her daughter’s age and even changed the date on her birth certificate to make her seem younger.
When Gypsy Rose was 19, she ran away from home but was quickly tracked down and found by Dee Dee. After this, Dee Dee smashed her computer and would deny her food. Eventually, Gypsy was able to get back online and met Nicholas Godejohn through social media. When Gypsy Rose told him the truth, they made a plan to murder Dee Dee. In June 2015, Nicholas murdered Gypsy’s mother while she hid in a different room. After this, she posted that Dee Dee was dead on her Facebook account, which led the police to her and later to her arrest. At her trial, she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for second-degree murder while Godejohn was given a life sentence for first-degree murder. Despite her conditions, Gypsy was doing well and stated that she felt happier in prison than with her mother. On top of that, she met her husband, Ryan Anderson whom she married on June 27th, 2022 while serving her sentence. She officially changed her name to Gypsy Rose Blanchard-Anderson.
Though she only served 80% of her sentence, she was granted parole and was released early on December 28, 2023, at 3:00 am. After she was released, she started posting to social media on numerous accounts including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Along with this, her father Rod, stepmother Kristy, and half-sister Mia, who had no idea what was going on throughout Gypsy Rose’s life because of her parents’ divorce, celebrated her release by throwing a party for her. Gypsy has appeared on multiple talk shows since her release and is also coming out with a documentary series called “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard.”
