The Grammys were held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. This Grammys was an epic night filled with incredible performances, fashion, well-deserved wins, and unfortunate losses. The award ceremony was hosted by South African comedian, Trevor Noah. The Grammy Awards Ceremony takes the time to recognize musicians who have worked extremely hard and seen immense success within the year.
The first-ever Grammy Awards was held in 1959 and hosted by the National Academy of Recording Arts. The first winners included icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and The Kingston Trio. Throughout the years nominees, winners, and awards have increased as the music industry changed and adapted. The Grammys have always been controversial. Many say “the Grammys are rigged” solely due to biased opinions.
This year artists such as SZA, Taylor Swift, Tyla, Victoria Monét, Billie Eilish, and Miley Cyrus dominated the night. Some highlights included: Swift breaking the record for having the most albums of the year and announcing an upcoming album in her acceptance speech, Cyrus winning her first Grammy, and a very angelic performance by Oliva Rodrigo.
There was some controversy surrounding some of the award recipients. For example, rapper Killer Mike won 3 Grammys: Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance. Many thought he shouldn't have won a Grammy because his music is unknown to the younger generation.
The red carpet was a showcase of stunning looks filled with fancy dresses and suits. Celebrities went all out. Celebrities like Taylor Swift who wore Schiaparelli Couture, Bille Eilish who wore a 1965 Barbie-inspired outfit, and Janelle Monae in Armani were serving iconic looks.
To sum up, the 2024 Grammy Award Ceremony was a night to remember. The night celebrated the best of the music industry, showed amazing talent–new and old–and reminded us that music unites.
