By Metta Sagurney & Madison Waschensky
Hello, lovely readers! Spring has sprung, and so we have come to deliver three albums each that remind us of this wonderful season! Enjoy!
Mettas picks:
Doolittle - The Pixies
This album encapsulates everything I love about Spring! So many tracks have this wonderful upbeat energy while maintaining a certain grungeiness that creates such a distinct sound throughout the entire album. When you listen to “Doolittle,” you can feel the sun beginning to warm up, even if the air stays bitter for a little while longer. It sounds like new beginnings, the fleeting pure joy of making it through the winter. Summer is on its way, but don’t forget to enjoy the spring while you have it!
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
Wilco is an incredibly special band to me, and “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” holds such a special place in my heart. It is a truly beautiful record, at times as lovely as it is heartbreaking; it weaves together a tapestry of emotion that cradles you and flips you inside out and then takes your hand to dance. It reminds me of spring because listening to it is like taking a walk and noticing that the grass is green again, the trees are blooming, the birds are singing, and maybe everything will be alright after all.
You’d Prefer an Astronaut - Hum
"You’d Prefer an Astronaut" reminds me of spring in a much different way than “Doolittle” and “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” do, because it's not the new warmth that it brings. This record is moody, like heavy rain. The noise hits you with a wall of sound, like a thunderstorm; it surrounds you completely. But it stands out from other noise albums because it brings a melodic element that makes it feel so incredibly alive. It is an album that lives and breathes, like the moody, stormy springtime.
Madisons picks:
Angles - The Strokes
“Reminds me of spring, and they’re going on tour soon.” - Madison
“This album reminds me of spring as it has softer and fun, lighter tunes as well as songs that have a darker undertone that (I believe) goes amazing with the change from winter to spring. Not to mention that every song on the album has a different sound yet such a similar theme.” - Ahren Pavel
Everything I Know About Love - Laufey
“Very calm album overall, has good music for Spring, and the album cover gives spring vibes
to me as well.”- Madison
“Laufey’s album is a good spring album to listen to. It reminds me of nature and flowers blooming with a lot of instrumental songs that remind me of spring!” - Natalie Albright
SZNZ: Spring - Weezer
“I love Weezer and it’s spring!!!!” -Madison
“I love Weezer, perfect for this list as it is spring. Madison and I are going to the Weezer concert
later this year.” - Kennedy Tewey
