The fall season is finally here! As the leaves change colors, temperature gets cooler and nights grow longer it is important to be ready for the new season. What better way to get into the season than music? For me, music helps me embrace my emotions and my experiences. Listening to fall songs makes Autumn even better than it already is, so I've made a list of some of my favorite fall songs. Here are 10 fall songs you should add to your playlist.
The first time fans heard this song was in September of 2023. Noah posted a video of him singing an unfinished chorus to this song with an acoustic guitar and fans loved it. Noah saw the love from his fans for the song, so on October 8, 2023, he released another snippet of the song, but this time he released the second verse with brand new vocals, lyrics, and instruments. He finally released the full song on February 9th, 2024. The song captures Autumn vibes with its beautiful instruments and its touching lyrics. The sound of the acoustic guitar throughout the track symbolizes the colorful and rich hues that this season has to bring, therefore it is a perfect song for this Autumn season.

We Fell in Love in October - by Girl in Red
“We Fell in Love in October" by Girl in Red is a romantic indie-pop song about young love between two girls. This song depicts a romantic relationship blossoming in Autumn. This song emphasizes the beauty of being in love during the fall season. One of my favorite lyrics in this song is “We fell in love in October, that’s why, I love fall.” This lyric is so simple yet perfectly sums up this amazing song.

"Velvet Ring" by Big Thief is a gloomy and dark song that dives into themes of love, loss, and vulnerability. The lyrics reflect on the ups and downs of relationships and the pain of emotional distance. With its soft, acoustic sound and lead singer Adrianne Lenker's beautiful vocals, the song creates an intimate, and raw atmosphere. The "velvet ring" symbolizes something delicate and precious, yet rocky, much like the emotions and connections explored throughout the track.

Champagne Problems - by Taylor Swift
This “crestfallen” track depicts the sorrow of heartbreak and rejection. This song takes a deep dive into the story of two lovers. One lover proposes and the other rejects. The lyrics are very heartfelt in the way it is written and in the way Taylor Swift paints this image of this relationship. The persistent piano adds to the depth of this track. Champagne Problems is perfect for a chilly Autumn day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This track is well known for being in the popular 2000’s show Gilmore Girls. Similar to the show this song radiates fall feelings. This song’s catchy beat and chorus, with its somber lyrics and nostalgic feel, make it a perfect fit for your autumn playlist.

Back to the Old House - by The Smiths
Between the memorable guitar and the soothing vocals, this song will check all of the boxes on your requirements list for fall songs. The lyrics reflect the emotion felt in the past about love for a person and a home. Steven Patrick Morrissey’s vocals put the listeners into the experiences they have lived through, making this an emotionally driven track. This song has a sense of coziness, nostalgia, and sorrow all built and put in one melody that makes it a wonderful Autumn song.

Kiss Me - by Sixpence None the Richer
“Kiss Me” is a very light-hearted love song. The romantic lyrics make it a radiant and dreamy track unlike some of the more melodic songs on this list. Some of my favorite lyrics that radiate autumn energy are “Lift your open hand, strike up the band and make the fireflies dance, silver moon's sparkling, So kiss me” and “Kiss me beneath the milky twilight. Lead me out on the moonlit floor.” These lyrics show a sense of a more early, cozy, and warm fall rather than a dark and cold one. This song is perfect if you want Fall to bring coziness and warmth this season.

You’re Gonna Go Far - by Noah Kahan
Noah Kahan is on the list once again. Noah Kahan’s lyrics, voice, and albums are perfect for the fall season. Noah often talks about the beauty of nature and the world around him, those themes are discussed in his album Stick Season. “You’re Gonna Go Far” is a hit song from that album and it is an amazing song that talks about the bittersweetness of someone close to you leaving to follow their dreams. The lyric “ The birds will still sing, your folks will still fight, the boards will still creak, the leaves will still die” shows that home will always have a sense of familiarity and timelessness that will forever be unchanged.

All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)
This meaningful, deep, chill song is ten minutes of pure storytelling like no other. Taylor recollects a three-month-long relationship full of heartbreak and unease. The sadness from the vulnerable lyrics makes it a perfect song to blast in the car or scream with friends. Lyrics such as “We're singin' in the car, getting lost upstate, Autumn leaves fallin' down like pieces into place and I can picture it after all these days” capture the beauty and magic of fall. Taylor also writes about the ending of fall with the lyric “Cause in this city's barren cold I still remember the first fall of snow and how it glistened as it fell. I remember it all too well.” Taylor mentions the weather getting colder and snow falling which is an indication that fall is over and so is the relationship. “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)” is the perfect Autumn song to bawl your eyes out to this upcoming season.

Sweater Weather - by The Neighborhood
This beloved song has an astounding 3.2 billion streams on Spotify making it The Neighborhood’s most streamed song. When I think of fall, one of the first things I think of is wearing sweaters, so the imagery of wearing sweaters and being cozied up sets the scene for this special time of the year. The lyrics dive into themes of longing, yearning, love, and intimacy during, in my opinion, the best season of the year.

I understand these songs may not be everyone's cup of tea and that's totally fine; these are simply my opinions, and there are no right or wrong choices when making your playlist. So, as the special time of Autumn begins, be sure to pour yourself a glass of apple cider, grab a blanket, and put on your favorite fall movie or TV show. Listen to these songs when you’re in the Autumn vibe and want to relax with some amazing options!
