The Truman Show, a 1998 release, is an excellent film that keeps you wondering until the very end. Usually older movies are not as popular for teens to watch, but I think it makes the movie even better, and the style fits the overall vibe of the movie. It contains genres such as dystopian fiction, psychological fiction, and comedic romance. If you haven't already seen the movie, it stars Jim Carrey and the plot is something so unexpected, no one could have guessed.
I first heard about this movie from TikTok and I was quite interested in it. I ended up deciding to watch it one random afternoon and I’m so glad I did, as it’s one of my favorite movies now.
The characters in this movie play a huge role in helping the audience better understand what is going on “behind the scenes” of Truman's everyday life. I feel that this movie, in a way, relates to the real world because sometimes we can use a reality check. For Truman, it was in a more extreme way. The movie does a great job of portraying him as feeling like he's going crazy, when really, he was right all along. Hints of odd things starting to happen are sprinkled in the beginning of the movie, leading up to Truman questioning his life and decisions, creating suspense. The whole time I was asking myself what was actually real? Did Truman go mentally insane after what he found out?
Hopefully you'll ask yourself the same things after watching. I definitely recommend this movie if you don’t typically enjoy films with basic plots. This was a unique movie, like nothing I've ever watched before. It had scenes you won’t forget, that might make you view your life differently or question reality just as Truman did. You can find it on Amazon Prime!
