Everyone knows Elvis’s story, but does everyone know Priscilla’s? The movie Priscilla, released on October 27th and directed by Sofia Coppola looks into the life of Priscilla Presley and what she had to go through while dating the star himself Elvis Presley.
The story follows how teenager Priscilla (played by Cailee Spaeny) gets offered to meet the Elvis Presley (played by Jacob Elordi) and how their relationship quickly escalates. The movie shows a side of Elvis that isn't usually seen in the media. In the movie, he is shown to have a temper and a tendency to cheat and lie. The movie is based on the memoir written by Priscilla Presley Elvis and Me, and Priscilla is an executive producer of the film.
When I sat down to watch the movie I was a little nervous about the mixed opinions the film had, but after watching it I can proudly say that it is maybe one of the best movies I have ever watched. The cinematography was beautiful and it made the movie feel like it was made during that time period. Cailee Spaeny portrayed Priscilla perfectly in my opinion. In the film Priscilla goes from the ages 14-29, and Cailee’s ability to play those ages was outstanding and believable which is something that you don’t see a lot of. Seeing how young Priscilla was when she started talking to Elvis was heartbreaking and seeing how her parents didn't seem to mind too much either was worse. Seeing how for most of her teen years she was obsessing over her relationship with him and her and falling back on studies and friends was also really upsetting.
Overall, the movie was outstanding and it left me in shock. Between the casting, cinematography, and set, it was perfect and I will be watching it again. I definitely recommend heading to the theatres to see this one for yourself or waiting till it comes out on streaming services.
