Flowers
Flowers, known as a universal symbol of love, are one of the most purchased items for this holiday. Whether it be roses, tulips, baby’s breath, or a mix, flowers can be a fairly inexpensive sign of appreciation for the people you love the most.
Chocolate
Chocolate or other sweet treats seem to always take the cake for the best Valentine's Day gift. Stores are filled with boxes and boxes of caramel squares or strawberry-filled confectionaries. You can never go wrong with a simple candy container.
Stuffed animals
Small teddies or little plushies, although more geared for children, can serve as a cute option for a gift. Sometimes bringing out the inner child in others helps to continue and solidify the relationship or friendship that you currently have with someone.
Baskets
One of the more intense or complex options as a present is a basket. Options for the contents of such baskets range from candy to gift cards to cards and even small balloons. Others add even larger objects to their bags like high-end jewelry, information about a vacation, or even a marriage proposal.
Homemade gifts
Some people like to opt for homemade items, or gifts that can be made from things around the house. Easy DIY projects to complete for your Valentine are cakes/cupcakes, bracelets, candles, necklaces, chocolate-covered strawberries, plants, or cards. You could also paint glasses, make crafts, or build something such as a movie night together.
High-ticket items (Uggs, clothing)
On a rare occasion, people use Valentine's Day to purchase big-ticket items for their significant others/friends. Uggs, as well as Lululemon, are popular brands that could work as Valentine's gifts. Going out to eat at a fancy restaurant or going on a shopping spree are also expensive but fun ways to celebrate.
Jewelry
Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings are also purchased very often around the middle of February. Many of these accessories are acquired for engagements, weddings, anniversaries, or the celebration of an early relationship.
The thing most important to the receiver of the gift
Although materialistic things are often thought of for this celebration of love and friendship, some of the most important gifts are those that are not materialistic at all. Making a playlist together, using pillows and blankets in the living room and watching a rom-com with a group of friends, taking a walk, or even just talking and having personal conversations with the people you love the most can be the best gift.
Do not feel pressured to spend a lot of money on something that your Valentine may or may not like. Instead, ask them what means the most to them, and if that means going out to coffee and watching a movie back at home, then that will be a good Valentine's Day!
