In between Halloween and Christmas, there's always a certain holiday that never gets the respect
that it deserves: Thanksgiving. This year it lands on November 27th. Thanksgiving is a holiday where we celebrate getting together with family and friends to be thankful for the privileges we have in our lives.
Here are my top 5 reasons why Thanksgiving is an underrated holiday:
1. Family + Friends - During the holiday, you're fully embraced around the table with as many
family and friends as you want. Thanksgiving’s tradition of gathering family and friends is
unmatched when it comes to being surrounded by the people you love.
2. Food - During the year, Thanksgiving is the day you can always rely on to fully pig out
and eat as much as you want. Thanksgiving's biggest tradition is not only being thankful but
having full stomachs and enjoying the food that you're able to love.
3. Vacation - Thanksgiving Break is the first real break of the school year. After the tireless
amount of work and using the seemingly endless phrase of “Just gotta make it to Friday,”
Thanksgiving break is the beaming ray of hope at the end of the tunnel. Yes, other holidays may
get you a long vacation too, but this is the first real one right after school is back in session.
4. No Pressure - Over the Thanksgiving Break, you never have to worry about buying gifts or
making sure your family or friends are getting a gift they like. Thanksgiving's simplicity on the
focus of gratitude and food makes it easier to set up rather than a lot of other commercial
Holidays.
5. Football - During a lot of family dinners, there will always be a chance to bond over America’s
#1 sport, football. Football is a sport where almost anyone can get into by simply watching the
game. The bonding that can happen because of football in and of itself is amazing. In one
Thanksgiving, you can get so much closer to family just by paying attention to the TV.
