Ice Skating
Ice skating is such a fun thing to do, especially with friends! I went several times in 2024, and another time a couple of weeks ago. Although my friends and I slipped sometimes, we can laugh about it later. Dressing warm such as wearing a coat and mittens is important. I also recommend wearing long socks or fuzzy socks so you don’t get cuts on your ankles or lower shins from the skates. If you don’t have your own skates, that’s perfectly okay because, at the North Buffalo Skating Rink, you can rent some by the hour! There is also ice skating downtown at Canalside. You also don’t need to free up your whole day just for skating, an hour or two is definitely enough!
See a Movie
I love going to the Regal Movie Theater for the experience of the delicious popcorn and drinks. The reclining seats also add to it! If you aren't looking to spend the typical $15 that the movie tickets are, on Tuesdays tickets are only $5! Plus, on any day if you get a large popcorn or drink there are free refills. I also wanted to mention movies I recommend seeing that I have already watched or seen good reviews on:
Mufasa: The Lion King
Wicked (very high ratings!) (my rating: 5/5)
It Ends With Us (my rating: 3/5)
Fall Guy (my rating: 4/5)
A Quiet Place: Day One (my rating: 3/5)
Godzilla-Kong: The New Empire (my rating: 5/5)
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Kingdom of The Planet of the Apes (high ratings!) (my rating: 5/5)
Joker: Folie a Deux (my rating: 3/5)
And these are only a few of the many movies that came out recently or in 2024! There are so many to see. I recommend researching how well the movies did and the reviews the movies got that you want to see. That way you don’t waste your money on a movie you wouldn't like. Also, always watch trailers before buying your ticket!
3. Baking/Blind-Deaf-Mute Baking Challenge
Baking is such a tasty and fun activity to pass the time, without spending extra money or even leaving the house! You can look up recipes on the internet or use family ones if you have them. There are simple recipes that require only a few basic ingredients like sugar or flour that you probably already have at home. If you're with friends, playing the blind, mute, and deaf challenge while baking can be lots of fun! It requires three or more people. One is blindfolded, one wears earbuds playing music, and one pretends to be “mute” or puts tape across their mouth. It is the perfect thing to make baking interesting! You'll have to try hard to communicate with your friends or family to make something decent.
4. Sculpt with Clay
You can make something useful or for room decor or something to give as a gift! I would look up inspiration online. I've made a coaster, an 8-ball picture holder, and a heart jewelry tray! I recommend oven-bake clay from the craft store Michael’s. After you bake it, you can paint and glaze it however you wish. Here are more ideas of things to make:
Vases
Bowls
Mugs
Candle holders
Ashtrays
Bookends
Jewelry holders
Fridge magnets
Picture holders
Coasters
Sculpting is so fun and you can even Google tutorials on how to make certain things (almost anything). Even if you're not a super creative or crafty person, it's worth trying! If you decide to make something, bake it for 15 minutes for every half inch of clay. If it's super thick, bake it for longer. Bake at 270°F for oven-bake clay, although there's also air-dry clay. I just use regular pain. You can get a gloss finish too if you want that look, or leave it matte. Lastly, I recommend getting tools, like a roller, etc. These help you shape the clay better and may speed up the process so everything isn't done by just the strength of your hands. You can find clay tool packs from Amazon or any craft store such as Hobby Lobby.
Start a Scrapbook
If you are a nostalgic person and love memories, this is a great idea for you! Especially if you have lots of pictures, tickets from movies, recipes, receipts, tags, ribbons, etc. Anything to glue on the pages! Start with a blank notebook that has no lines. Then gather everything you can find from your own belongings or magazines that you want to include. Stickers, tape, glue, and scissors would help as well. You don't have to fill a page every day, maybe just when you have an eventful day you want to document! Also, if you get a notebook with a plain cover that's not to your liking, you can decorate the cover yourself with paper, colored pencils, watercolor, and more. Another thing to mention, if you can't print out pictures often, using Polaroid pictures are nice as well. If you would like a more writing-focused portion in your scrapbook, add journal entries every day/week. Record things such as your daily schedule, what you eat in a day, or your wishlist.
