On Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, the Board of Education held its monthly meeting to discuss important topics within the district. The meeting started with Hoover Elementary's 4th-grade Chorus singing the National Anthem, and was followed by the recognition of Hoover Elementary staff and children.
Highlights from the meeting included:
The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Plan
For the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Plan, every principal in the district has to follow this plan in case of an emergency of a sudden cardiac arrest. But what's the plan regarding this? Well, the plan needs to have the staff of a school trained on the essentials, such as what to look for symptom-wise, who to call in the scenario, and where the AEDs and the defibrillators are in the building.
Child Nutrition
In the past year, the amount of lunch participation has risen to an incredible 71%. This means that across the District, 71% more kids have been getting lunches. This rise in numbers is very beneficial to the lunch programs in each school; over 6,000 students around the district have been served food.
Kenmore West Community Club Party
Over the past month, Kenmore West’s Community Club has been hard at work setting up for the annual holiday party. The students and teachers have restlessly been wrapping presents to donate to kids in need. The party itself involved up to 125 people eating, playing games, and having good fun overall. This all wouldn't have been able to happen without the generosity of the staff and the kindness of the students.
The future of IB at Kenmore West
The past few months, there have been speculations of the continuation of the Interbaccalaureate Program; talks of it continuing have seemed to be confirmed after a whopping 60+ kids have signed up for the program.
Holocaust Survivor Speaker
On November 20th, a Jewish Holocaust survivor, Grigory Shershnevsky, and his wife and daughter came from the Buffalo Jewish Federation to speak at Kenmore West to an audience of over 300 attendees. Students in attendance were able to ask questions about Mr. Shershnevsky’s experiences, namely when he was sheltered by a Catholic family, and when they both spent time in the Soviet Union.
German Exchange Meeting
On December 10th, Kenmore West held a meeting with students and parents of both Kenmore East and Kenmore West, discussing very important details that will be happening with the German exchange trip. The most important topics are about hosting in the fall and traveling in the spring.
IB Exams
IB seniors in theater are collaborating for their final exam project this year with a play on global issues that plague current society. The production is expected to be hosted either at the end of December or the beginning of January. IB physics students are also hard at work conducting their own research-oriented exams on topics of their own choosing.
Concerts
On the 17th of December, Kenmore West’s chorus students will be having their Choral Holiday Concert, followed by the Orchestra’s Holiday Concert on the 18th.
