Want things to do over your Christmas break instead of just doomscrolling on your phone? If so, then this article is perfect for you! Below are ideas of creative crafts to make to keep you busy during the holiday season. Most of the supplies for these crafts are inexpensive and items you probably already have at home. Happy crafting!!
Pipe Cleaner Christmas Tree
I did this craft with my sister a couple of weeks ago, and it’s so cute! Although I do have to admit that it does make a mess. The materials you will need are green pipe cleaners, scissors, a hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, paper, and tape. You can also use white paint and a paintbrush to flick the paint on the finished tree, to make the tree appear as though snow has settled on it! First, fold your standard-sized piece of paper into a cone, and then tape the ends. Next, take your pipe cleaners and cut them in half, and then cut them in half again. This should result in many little pieces of pipe cleaner. Start hot-gluing them to the paper cone and then, when dry, fold the ends of the pipe cleaners up so they look like the leafy branches of a Christmas tree. Finally, I also hot-glued beads into my tree, which makes them look like ornaments! You could also wrap ribbon around the tree, tie a red bow at the top, or glue a yellow star to really add to that tree-like appeal. I used different bright colors of star-shaped beads to fit in between the branches! This was a time-consuming process; however, I think it was worth it because it’s the perfect room decoration addition to my room. It’s perfect to put on my shelf, and you can see it from a distance!
Pottery Painting
This is on my Christmas to-do list!! There are so many different designs you can paint, and so many different molds to choose from. Mugs, bowls, cups, vases–they’re all good options for a fun activity to do independently or with friends and family. You could either purchase oven-bake or air-dry clay at a craft store, and mold and paint your own items, or go to a pottery studio and use a wheel to mold the clay. Below are examples of colors and designs you could use to create the perfect gift for yourself or others for Christmas and the holiday season!!
Painting Candles
This is such a simple and easy craft to do! All you need are candles, paintbrushes, and paint. You can paint candlesticks or the actual round candles, although the sticks are probably easier to handle since they are smaller.
Cardboard Gingerbread House
For this, you will need cardboard, scissors, a hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, tissue paper, and paint or markers!! I really want to try this craft, and I think it would be the perfect decoration piece for the cozy season. First, start by grabbing pieces of cardboard and cutting them into your desired shape. For a gingerbread house, you will need one piece for the floor, four for the walls, and two smaller pieces for the roof. Hot glue them together, making sure the glue doesn’t drip and become messy. Then you can grab your paint or markers and draw windows, a door, etc. The tissue paper can be used to decorate the walls or look like snow, if you use white!
Felt Ornaments
For this, you will need felt, tissue paper, a hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, felt-tipped markers, and string. Glue two pieces of felt together and then you can start coloring. Glue the string to the inside of one of the pieces of felt so that you are able to hang the ornament on the tree. Before gluing the rest of the ornament closed, stuff it with tissue paper!! This will give the ornament that puffy and full look. Without the tissue paper, the ornament may appear flat and not finished.
