As the school year begins winding down and the weather is getting warmer, every upperclassman's favorite event has arrived: Prom! Every single year, the style, color, and material of prom dresses have changed in popularity, and this year is no exception. Let's take a look at what the evolution of prom dresses brought this year!
Although florals have always been existent in prom dress history, this year, many prom dresses used large-sized florals on the material of the dress to pop out and create a stunning look. This popularity came from the fixation that thousands of people had on the Sherri Hill style 57250, which had gone viral on TikTok and created a desire for this gown. The dress is white with oversized blue flowers on it and an exposed-bone corset bodice balanced with a flowy and ruffled ballgown skirt. The range for this dress is typically around $750 to $798, although many prom dress stores sell dresses similar to this for lower prices. This popular dress surely set the stage for the new prom styles.
Florals have not been the only type of dress taking over; satin dresses have become extremely popular this year, in both short and long dresses. The satin dresses give a chic and glowy vibe, forcing your eyes to go to them during the prom evening. The material glides over the wearer, providing a glossy and smooth visual. The range of colors is very large; however, I often saw this dress style typically in the colors yellow, blue, and black.
This year's prom color palette did not disappoint by any means, as the colors brought light and summery feelings as well as a simplistic and bright look. The colors this year included butter yellow, light blue, and varying shades of green. This use of pastels brought elegance to the dresses as well as the events in general. Although styles change and follow the newest fashion trend, the 2026 prom dress demonstrated true elegance and beauty.
