In the winter, when it’s cold and gloomy outside, it can be hard to keep up with our style and sense of fashion. Find out what accessories you can wear to elevate your winter wardrobe instead of wearing hoodies and sweatpants every day, even though they may be the most convenient or comfortable during the chilly season! There are ways to stay cozy while also looking chic. You may think that plain sweat-sets have to be your default outfits, but they don’t! There are so many other flattering options that you may have never even thought to wear or style before. Let this article be your guide for how to dress during the winter season!
Jackets
Jackets are known by many as just an outer layer of clothing to wear when it’s freezing outside. However, they can be a part of your outfit. You don’t just have to wear that bulky coat that you hate. I think the best example for where to shop for these jackets is Hollister! Their clothes typically match the early 2000’s era and aesthetic, and they recently released a bunch of new women’s coats and jackets. These include their Faux Shearling Jacket, Faux Fur Trim Puffer Bomber Jacket, Twill Y2K Military Jacket, and more!!
Open Back Tops
Although I wouldn’t recommend wearing this on a super cold day, this style of top is perfect for elevating an outfit instead of wearing just a simple crewneck. I actually have a top like this from Hollister, called an “oversized open back bow sweatshirt.” The specific one I own is a white and pink flower pattern, but this is another version and color, made specifically for the Class of 2026, as it has those exact words stitched in light pink on the front!
Jean Skirts
Jean skirts are probably the best thing I recommend for upping your style in winter. Definitely wear them with tights underneath to stay warm though!! With a sweater and fuzzy boots, this is the perfect outfit. The skirts to the right are from Hollister and Pacsun. I found skirts with interesting laces and patterns to show that you don’t just have to wear the typical blue jean color. These particular skirts come with built-in shorts underneath and retail for around $40-$50, which can be a lot. However, Hollister and Pacsun are constantly having sales, including buy-one-get-one-free deals, regular clearance deals, and lower prices by as much as $20 if you buy four or more items.
Scarves
Scarves are a great way to add to an outfit and keep you cozy during the chilly days! These scarves are from Subdued and are listed for about $30. I know Hollister also has some good options for scarves. I think a chunky scarf with jeans and a jacket can be really chic.
Fold-Over Flare Leggings
Flare leggings, especially ones with designs on them or ones that fold over, are more than just regular black leggings. These add some personality because of the colors and designs. The ones to the right are from Subdued and retail for about $45. While that can be considered a high cost for leggings, Aerie, a popular legging brand, also lists their leggings for about $40-$60, costing even more! However, Aerie does not have fold-over style leggings or designs such as the angel wings on the back. Flare leggings with a sweater is an outfit that will keep you very warm while also staying chic and on trend!
