By Miss Leone
With pops of color and a spring in my step
I'm ready to enter a new season of pep
Blossoms emerging, birds humming in trees
The warm wind rolling off our freshwater seas
With Erie to my West and Ontario above
I just can't wait for this season of love
While the world renews outside my window
I'm stuck inside school to teach and to grow
The minds of students while I dream of sunny days
If only they knew the joy of my ways
That learning should be outside not in a room
Instead, we're in here, in the dark and the gloom
The days are getting longer and the sun does stay out
But we are in here and I'm starting to doubt
When I'll again get to feel that embrace
Of rays touching down on the skin of my face
My students don't pay mind to the changes outside
I comment to the class and lead them with pride:
"Find yourself wandering outdoors much more often
You'll be happier, find peace, your soul will soften
See, I wish for you to see the joys of this earth
But you're here inside while the world has rebirth"
If only schools came with fewer screens and more space
We'd have a tender, more generous race
Of human beings being kind to each other
But now we have tablets, phones, and another
Thing to mention is the ease in the tension
That spring could bring us if we just paid attention
To how earth forgives winter with warmth and bright flowers
And adds to our days with birds and new hours
"So while we are here in this building together
Let's dream of green nature and what kind of weather
Waits outside to explore and for us to discover
That springs not so bad when we have one another"
