Lady Lindy Gone Wild

Amelia Earheart is a well-known female pilot and mystery to the globe. As she attempted to make the first flight around the world, the journey didn't end how she had originally intended. Miscalculations led to a crash and left the plane never to be seen or found. Where could she be? Why didn’t she make it? We still trying to solve this mystery today. 

After recent events and research, scientists seem to believe that they have finally found remains of the famous plane which could lead to a multitude of answers. Using sonar imaging this team has gathered enough information to publicly announce the possibility of the craft being found but, there is not yet enough evidence to confirm.  

As Earheart climbed to the top of her accomplishments we must recognize that she was not always admired. She was determined to break gender barriers and do what she loved, flying. The world wasn’t on the same page though; many men didn’t appreciate her presence and competition. She was constantly receiving hate from the public around her, but she never backed down. This brings up questions regarding her failure: if people were out there who didn’t want to see her reach her goals, what could they have done to ensure she was never found? There are a multitude of different theories to dive into but the main ideas revolve around the Roosevelts and her dark past. 

Earhart had an incredibly close relationship with the 1st lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. Was it a coincidence that Amelia wanted to be close to someone holding political power? Or did Eleanor have twisted motives about Amelia’s travels? Rumors say that the Roosevelts used Amelia as a spy to gain foreign information and her flight around the world was really a cover-up of a much deeper mission. Due to the unexpected drop in the plane, some believe that the Japanese Air Force uncovered Earheart’s intentions and captured the plane. This idea would explain the sudden disappearance and lack of answers. The Roosevelts led a strong campaign and leadership of the United States; how surprised could we really be if a powerful woman like Amelia Earheart was on their team? 

Another interesting take on this skeptical situation is that Earheart took on a new identity after the crash. Since no plane was found, many historians believe that the crash was a plot for Amelia to escape her life of fame and hate. Although it seemed Amelia never let the pressure get to her, you could assume that she lived a hard life. Through the photos, interviews, and breaking records, Amelia struggled through her parents' divorce and her grandfather's dying which can take a huge mental and emotional toll. How could one person balance this state and still smile for the cameras? It seems impossible. This is why a group of people have reason to expect that Amelia was in dire need of getting out of the spotlight and healing from her past. She was smart, driven, and never let her situations run her life, but on this trip around the world, she couldn’t continue. Is it possible that Amelia landed on a small tropical island and started her new free life? If this was Amelia's intention, she sure had the motives and the technology. 

We can only hope that researchers uncover the mystery and find our “Lady Lindy.” The world can be a dark place but this woman has set an incredible example to entrepreneurs and girls around the world. Never give up on your dreams and fight through the adversity that is pushed toward you. Maybe one day we, as a society, will finally make our flight all the way around the world.
